Embracing Consistency: Learnings from my 2023 Vacation Challenge of 100 'Workouts' Across the Globe
Today on our Instagram, we just shared a new video featuring a collage of my workouts during LAST YEAR’S vacation travels.
During my holidays in 2023, I set myself a goal to complete 100 different workouts in just under four months. That's 25 'workouts' a month...nothing crazy, just consistent. These workouts could include everything from yoga and makeshift SHRED sessions to runs, to boot camps classes, Spartan obstacle races, gym workouts, beach HIIT sessions, challenging hikes, swims, bike rides and even YouTube fitness videos in my Airbnb's. My goal was simple: stay active, stay consistent, and keep my body moving while I explored the world.
Here are 3 takeaways I can share to help you keep your wellness routine going while you're away from home, SHRED, or in vacation mode:
Consistency is Key:
One of the most important principles of wellness, in my humble opinion, is consistency. I firmly believe that a body in motion stays in motion. The more you move, the more your body feels like a well-oiled machine, ready to take on any challenge. Consistency kept me grounded and motivated, even when my surroundings changed daily.
Setting Goals and Staying Accountable:
During my travels, I decided to complete 100 different workouts. This goal gave me the accountability and motivation I needed to stay active, even on days when I might have preferred to relax. Setting behavior-oriented goals—like completing a certain number of workouts within a specific timeframe—helps provide structure and focus, no matter where you are.
Balancing Fitness and Fun:
Travel often disrupts our routines, making it easy to neglect our wellness goals. However, there are countless ways to maintain a healthy and happy lifestyle, no matter where you find yourself. Whether it’s an improvised workout on a secluded beach or a yoga session in a scenic location, staying active during travel is not only possible but also incredibly rewarding. Remember, a 1-hour workout is just 4% of your day. The other 96% is for sightseeing, exploring, trying local foods, and yes, even partying!
Focus on Behaviors, Not Just Results:
I’ve learned that focusing on behaviors, such as consistent workouts and mindful movement, rather than solely on achieving specific results (like weight loss), leads to long-term success. By prioritizing the actions that support our health and well-being, we naturally move closer to our goals.
Set a Challenge:
Feeling adventurous? Set yourself a similar behavior-oriented goal (e.g., complete X number of workouts in X days/weeks/months). Behavior-oriented goals are easier to stick to, focus on, and measure. I personally don’t recommend setting goals related to achieving a certain weight or weight loss. Instead, focus on the behaviors needed to achieve those results, and you’ll find the results will follow.
As I write this, I am once again traveling on vacation and have started another 100-workout challenge. I’ve just completed #29, (a run and my improvised SHRED 30 workout). 61 to go!
The SHRED Life isn’t just a workout; it’s a lifestyle.
So join me in staying consistent, staying motivated, and keep on moving! Here’s to embracing the SHRED Life, wherever your journey takes you!
Stay tuned for more updates and inspiration!
