Trying something new while traveling can feel intimidating.
Especially when it comes to fitness.
Maybe you haven’t worked out in a while. Maybe you’re traveling solo. Maybe you’re unsure if the class will be too intense, too advanced, or too serious.
The good news?
That’s exactly why SHRED was built the way it was.
At SHRED Wellness, the goal has never been to create intimidating gym energy. SHRED was created to be a welcoming, community-driven fitness and wellness experience where people of all levels can move, sweat, connect, and feel good.
So if you’re thinking about joining your first class, here’s exactly what to expect.

First Things First: You Do NOT Need to Be “Fit”
This is probably the biggest misconception people have before their first class.
You do not need:
gym experience
yoga experience
perfect flexibility
high fitness levels
coordination
fancy workout clothes
Seriously.
Many people join SHRED while:
traveling long-term
recovering from inconsistent routines
getting back into fitness
trying yoga for the first time
looking to meet people
rebuilding confidence
Our classes are designed to be adaptable, welcoming, and beginner-friendly while still challenging enough for experienced participants.
You go at your own pace.
The Energy Feels Different
One thing many people notice immediately is that SHRED doesn’t feel like a traditional gym.
Most classes take place:
outdoors
on rooftops
in open-air wellness spaces
near the beach
surrounded by tropical energy and ocean air
The environment changes everything.
Many people stay after class for smoothies or coffee. There’s music, movement, community, and a relaxed atmosphere that reflects Puerto Escondido itself.
It’s fitness - but without the pressure or ego.
What Types of Classes Does SHRED Offer?
SHRED offers 40-50 weekly classes across multiple locations in Puerto Escondido.

Some classes are high-energy and sweaty. Others are slower, grounding, and recovery-focused.
A lot of people combine both.
What Should You Bring?
Honestly? Not much.

For most SHRED classes, you really just need:
comfortable clothes
water
a towel if you tend to sweat (we provide towels at some fitness classes like Switch Circuit)
good energy
And here’s something a lot of people are surprised to hear:
You don’t even need tennis shoes.
Most SHRED workouts can be done barefoot, especially in our open-air wellness spaces, rooftops, and beachside environments. Many people train exactly the way Puerto feels — relaxed, grounded, and free.
No fancy workout gear required. No pressure to “look the part.”Just come comfortable, safe, and ready to move.
SHRED is as chill and laid back as Puerto itself.
No shirt, no shoes… no problem.
And the best part?
All equipment is provided.

So whether you planned ahead or decided to join class spontaneously after coffee, surf, or the beach… we’ve got you covered. And, while we love when our clients make reservations in advance - you can always just show up without a reservation - and pay directly in the venue - cash or digital payments accepted.
What Happens When You Arrive?
Most people check in a few minutes before class starts. Remember - SHRED operates from 6 different locations - so be sure to look carefully which particular location your class is taking place! Check out all of our SHRED locations - including links to Google Map locations here!
Instructors are usually available before class if:
you’re nervous
you have injuries
you’re a beginner
you want modifications
you’re unsure what to expect
You’ll often notice a mix of:
travelers
locals
digital nomads
solo visitors
friend groups
long-term SHRED community members
One of the things people love most about SHRED is how quickly it feels welcoming.
Will the Workout Be Too Hard?
Honestly?
That depends on you.
You can make the class as challenging as you choose. We can promise that you’ll sweat. You’ll work hard. You may discover muscles you forgot existed.
But SHRED instructors are trained to offer:
modifications
beginner options
progressions
pacing guidance
The goal is not perfection.
The goal is SHOWING UP and doing your best.
And over time, you’ll probably surprise yourself with how quickly your confidence grows.
The Community Is a Big Part of the Experience

A lot of people initially come for the workout. Or the yoga flow.
But many stay because of the community.
It’s common for people to:
meet friends in class
grab coffee after workouts
attend wellness events together
join recovery sessions
build routines while traveling
feel more connected in Puerto
For digital nomads and solo travelers especially, SHRED often becomes part of their rhythm while living in Puerto Escondido.
At SHRED, people show up exactly as they are - whether that’s in matching workout sets or straight from the beach.
Which SHRED Class Should You Start With?
Here’s a simple guide:
Want high energy and a fun sweat?
Try:
Want strength-focused training?
Try:
Want something slower and grounding?
Try:
Want balance?
A lot of people combine:
fitness + yoga
strength + recovery
HIIT + mobility
That’s the beauty of the SHRED experience. Check out all of our classes!
Final Thoughts
Starting something new can feel uncomfortable.
But almost everyone who joins their first SHRED class says the same thing afterward:
“I wish I had done this sooner.”
Because it ends up being about much more than fitness.
It becomes:
movement
connection
energy
confidence
routine
community
feeling good while experiencing Puerto Escondido
And the first step really is just SHOWING UP.
